It's called a "rodeo flip," and it's pretty insane.
Jordy Smith pulls arguably one of the best surfing moves ever.
SOUTH PACIFIC SWELL/SURF ACTIVITY The current SW (210-225+) groundswell peaks on Tuesday with waist-head high surf. Top SW breaks get overhead sets then. Those waves then ease through the middle part of the work week as small knee-waist high leftovers prevail by Friday. However, a new long-period SW (210-230) Southern Hemi groundswell and a secondary S~185 swell will be filling in right behind it this Friday. This swell will top out by the end of this weekend and into early next week with solid shoulder-head high+ surf while sets at standouts go a couple to a few feet overhead. Further out; a complex low is now pulling together in the central South Pacific and is due to continue to do so over the next few days. If that happens we can expect more S-SW groundswell to push in by the middle of next week and hold up good size waves right into that weekend (10th-12th) Stay tuned as we track this evolving system over the next few days.

SWELL WATCH Thursday the 2nd the decline of Monday’s swell continues. Periods back off to around 13 seconds from around 225 degrees, while wave heights at stand out breaks drop to chest high by the evening. The swell which began to fill in on Wednesday should peak mid day with head to overhead+ surf midday, but begin to back off through the afternoon. Friday the 3rd most of the day will be smaller as swell continues to back down. Waist to chest high surf around 12-13 seconds will be the norm for the most part. Late in the evening a the much awaited pulse of 215-degree swell could start to fill in, kicking up some overhead surf with 15-second periods. Saturday the 4th, swell continues to build up to a couple feet overhead by the late evening. The second pulse begins to fill in and periods also pick up a bit with 18-second intervals leading the larger pulse from 216 degrees. This swell should cover much of the Central American coast, as well as large areas of Baja and Mainland Mexico. Sunday the 5th size continues to hold up to several feet overhead, and possibly DOH at stand out breaks. Periods look to be around 17 seconds from 216 degrees. Monday the 6th, this things not over yet, swell size continues to grow into the DOH+ range at stand out breaks while general locations continue to see surf a couple feet overhead at 16-second intervals. The swell angle does drop a bit to 214 degrees, but it shouldn’t make too much of a difference. The peak of the swell is to occur in the evening. Tuesday the 7th after an evening peak on Monday, the swell should hold at a couple feet overhead to DOH sets at stand out breaks; periods back off to the 15-second range, from 213 degrees. The train of pulses that were associated with this swell suggest a rather slow back off, and there should continue to be sizable surf through the second half of next week. Further out, swell sticks around through the second part of next week, but after that conditions could be on the decline for a bit until the Southern Ocean kicks up something new. |
