SOUTH PACIFIC SWELL/SURF ACTIVITY The SSW(185-205) groundswell which has been supplying most of the surf this week is on its way out now. There will still be plenty of fun, chest-shoulder+ high waves for Thursday. The trend towards gradually decreasing size continues on Friday as the old swell continues to fade. Modest scale mix of the old S swell and new SSW pulse on Saturday is joined by a SW~230 pulse on Sunday, for mainly waist-shoulder zone waves over the weekend. The SW swell fills in more at good exposures next Monday then holds into Tuesday, with waist-head high surf. Top breaks get overhead sets then. Those waves ease by the middle of the upcoming week. Forecast charts show potential for stronger SW Southern Hemi swell being cranked by a storm near New Zealand to start filling in by next Friday, July 3rd, then topping out over the following weekend, 4th & 5th. SWELL WATCH Friday the 26th head high to overhead+ south swell fills in with 18-second periods from around 186 degrees. The peak of this swell should occur through the day, maxing out with sets at exposed breaks possibly a couple feet overhead. Saturday the 27th south swell from 182 degrees backs off to the chest to overhead range. Periods push back to 15 seconds. Sunday the 28th looks very similar to Saturday with chest to overhead surf from around 175 degrees. This steep swell could be hard to reach some particular spots, and wave heights are specific to stand out breaks. Monday the 29th a larger pulse from the SW (229 degrees) fills in with 16 seconds kicking the surf up to the overhead+ range and possible a couple feet overhead at stand out breaks. Swell will most likely continue from the south as well, although size will be more chest high+. Tuesday the 30th we’ll see the Monday’s swell peak with overhead+ to a couple feet overhead surf from around 228 degrees; periods at 15 seconds.. Further out, are several SW pulses due for the first week of July, so there should be plenty of surf going around. |
